What the What?

Are you a Santa doll expert? Even better, are you a naked Santa doll expert? Do you know when this lovely Fibre-Craft naked Santa doll (Model No. 3104) was first sold? Given that it was manufactured in Hong Kong, and is weird, frightening and wrapped in crinkly plastic, my guess is that it is another fine product of the 1970s, but that's only a guess. If you have an answer, please let us know at xmasinthe70s [at] yahoo.com.

I was going to ask why Santa is bottomless, but then I decided I don't really want to know.

i had one of these - his clothes were removable - and mine had clothes. There is a hole in the back of his skull for finger puppet purposes i guess. Had mine in the early eighties.

That is an item you would purchase at a Fabric or Craft store. Various dolls like the Santa doll you have pictured are sold for people to sew/make the outfits for the doll. They have been around since the 60's, maybe longer.

Hope this helps,

Mot sure of the date when these were made, but I picked one up at a church rummage sale several years ago, only mine was clothed. Someone had lovingly crocheted a Santa suit for this fella, using red yarn for most of the suit and white yarn for the trim. Seriously, it's adorable - one of my favorite Christmas ornament finds - and for fifty cents, it was mine!
